About Jennifer

Jennifer McCollum, a proud lifelong resident of Raleigh, North Carolina, appreciates her local upbringing. Jenn was born at the original Rex Hospital and attended West Millbrook and Friendship. She has maintained a strong network of friends and family in the area throughout her life, underscoring her belief in the importance of close-knit community ties and family values.

A proud alumna of North Carolina State University, Jennifer earned a B.A. in Communication with a concentration in Public Relations, complemented by a minor in Political Science. Her academic journey laid the foundation for her passion for effective communication and civic engagement.

Jennifer’s professional career began as Public Relations Director at the North Carolina Senior Games, a year-round health promotion and wellness education program. In this role, she gained invaluable experience in public service and community health, reinforcing her commitment to improving the lives of others.

Public relations has always been a key focus for Jennifer, but her passion for helping others led her to utilize her skills in the life sciences. After gaining years of leadership experience in the healthcare industry, Jennifer stepped away from the medical field to become a stay-at-home mom and raise her family. In this time, Jenn continued to hone her business acumen and started a small business, working with several local shops and vendors to bring her vision to life. Several years later, she returned to her career in healthcare. Today, she collaborates with clinical leaders across North Carolina and other nearby states to advocate for improved mental health services.

A proud mother of two young adults, Jennifer values the time she spends with family, particularly traveling together and enjoying outdoor activities. Her love for Raleigh is enhanced by all the opportunities and experiences the city has had to offer her family over the years. Jenn feels a personal connection to the goal of securing a successful and sustainable future for Raleigh. She aspires to help shape a vibrant and resilient city for future generations, where her own children can grow and thrive, just as she did.

Jennifer McCollum is running to represent District B on the Raleigh City Council, where she hopes to use her various career experiences, tenacity, and knowledge of Raleigh’s rich history to serve her community. She believes that Raleigh is a special place, one that attracts more new residents each year. Jennifer understands the importance of making changes to accommodate this growth, but is determined to protect Raleigh’s unique culture, values, and traditions. She is committed to ensuring safety, affordability, transparency, and fiscal responsibility on the City Council, always prioritizing the well-being of Raleigh’s residents.
